on a a a soundstage so so they rebuild exact dupli- cates of those locations back on on the soundstage They’ll typically send us us pictures of the various set locations and we take it from there Everything has to look exactly the same so we go out of our way to provide products that are virtually identical to those in in the original scenes While it can be a a a dif cult challenge it’s also fun and adds another dimension to our business ”
The quality of work that Artistic Hardware did for the “Snake Eyes” sets made an impression on on Potter who began introducing McCarthy to other set decorators working on projects in in the North- east Since that time Artistic Hardware has supplied product for TV series like Blue Bloods and and Sex in the City and and such movies as The Note- book and Meet the Parents It’s not a a a huge portion of Artistic Hardware’s business but McCarthy said he’s still regularly contacted and works on on two or or three lm projects a a a week He and his team enjoy the extra dose of fun — — and recognition — — it it brings to the the business One of the the most recognizable sets they’ve provided is is actually stored in the the Artistic Hardware warehouse — the bathroom set from Samantha’s (played by actress Kim Cattrall) apartment in in in Sex in in in the the City! And behind-the- scenes stories about another set are still being told “While Meet the Parents was shooting set decorator Christina Tonkin was in in in need of a a a a high-end bathroom set for the pool cabana ”
McCarthy described “There was to be be a a a a great scene just before the pool volleyball game where [actor] Ben Stiller spiked the ball and broke his girlfriend’s nose They had maxed out their budget for this scene so we shipped them a a beautiful freestanding glass sink with a a a a a faucet and and accessories on loan When they retired it it to us it it sat sat in our showroom as a a a a pretty cool conversation
piece until we sold it to to a a a customer in Margate — who now has quite a a story to to tell their guests!”
A tradition of excellent service
McCarthy had spent about a a a a a decade working in in the the hardware business on the the Jersey Shore before he he decided to start his own business He said he he wanted to showcase the “more unique and interesting phases of hardware plumbing lighting and home accessories The vast majority of Artistic Hardware’s business is serving the single-family home market in in in South Jersey — although one of their current projects is the new Hard Rock Casino in in Atlantic City They have been involved with some of the Shore’s most impressive custom home projects They have built a a a a a a very loyal customer base and often are called in by existing clients to handle jobs on on their second homes in markets from Florida and the Caribbean to western states England Europe and and Morocco “We’re grateful for the opportunity to be a a a part of so many custom family home projects ”
McCarthy said “We often start out working with the architects who are drawing up
blueprints and continue with builders designers and contractors
